The Ragnar New England Overnight Relay
Summary: I and 5 other virtual friends took on the first running of the Ragnar New England this weekend.
We ran around 200 miles from New Haven, CT to Boston, MA. It took us 27+ hours. We ran an “Ultra” team – that is we ran a course meant for a 12-person team with 6 people.
We pulled the team together virtually through the social networking tool Twitter and got Brooks Running to sponsor us with equipment and shoes. (so none of us really ever me

I was asked by Vibram to take a pair of Patagonia Release shoes for a test and share my feedback. I took these shoes for a 17 mile trail run through single path, gravel road, rocks, roots, leaves, pine needles, mud and grass. They are a substantial trail shoe and they performed well. I had no issues with them and could see using them in an ultra. Good, sturdy, solid shoes. This seems to be the type of shoe you would get if a hiking boot company decided to make a running shoe!

Just use the template…
Somewhere in the first half of the race this year I joked to the guy next to me; “I should just create a template for my Boston Race Reports, because every year it’s the same story…I get caught up in the crowd, go out too fast, fade on the hills and struggle in…”

A refreshed team, a renewed sense of commitment promises a great event for local athletes.
There was some question this fall as to whether the highly regarded Groton Road Race would be held at all in its 18th year. A few of the key members of the race director’s team were moving on and the question was asked whether or not it would be better to let the much-loved local event “go out on top”.

Littleton, Ma March 2009
Many local commuters have come up with ways to combat high gas prices by sharing rides or riding their bicycles this year but Chris Russell of Littleton recently went over the top. He ran to work. Before you say “So what?” you have to understand that Chris lives in Littleton, 17.5 miles from his office in Burlington, Ma., and he didn’t just run to work, he turned around and ran home for a 35 mile total commute.

An awesome Derry 16 miler in 2009
My legs are pretty sore still here and it’s Tuesday. I got my money’s worth out of the 2009 running of the Derry 16 Miler. One of my more annoying mannerisms is to recite excerpts from Tennyson’s “Charge of the Light Brigade”. It seems fitting at mile 10 when we hurl our old tired bodies at that monster of a hill that makes Derry a special race.
