Travelling
It’s a lot like running.
I like travel. It fills my need for adventure. It makes me sharp and aware. The stress and gamesmanship of a long business trip is akin to a long trail race.
Like a race you have to conserve your energy – you can’t go out too fast. You have to pay attention to your nutrition. You have to stay hydrated.
There are long stretches that require patience, good humor and a positive attitude. You have to take advantage of opportunities for rest when they are presented.
Understanding the elements of endurance helps as well. Am I, Chris the marathoner, ultra-marathoner, tri-athlete, and overall endurance guy a better traveler because of my endurance? Probably, but I see many similarities. They are more than likely just reflections of me, two sides of the same coin.
